"Lots of people talk to animals. Not very many listen though. That is the problem." - A.A. Milne
Jake earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the College of William and Mary and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation, he completed an intensive internship at a specialty/emergency hospital in North Carolina. While there, he practiced alongside specialists in oncology, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, and critical care. Afterwards he stayed on as an emergency clinician for two additional years. Seeking a lifestyle change, Jake and Mackenzie moved to Maui. Jake initially worked at an emergency hospital on Oahu before becoming a general practitioner on Maui. During his varied experiences, Jake developed a passion for the field of veterinary pain management. To further these interests, he obtained his certification in Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians in Colorado and completed the Canine Rehabilitation Certificate Program through the University of Tennessee. Jake is working toward becoming a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner through the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.
When not saving puppies and helping kittens, Jake enjoys sipping his Kona coffee on the lanai, chasing sticks on the beach that his Australian Cattle Dog won't fetch, playing Sunday baseball, and running trails on Maui.
